Double Irish

The title Double Irish comes from the Double Irish revenue arrangement which allowed Ireland to become one of the largest tax havens for multinational corporations in Europe. Included within these corporations is Google, who have based their European headquarters in the nation’s capital of Dublin. Using their program Google Earth, this series of CGI photographs capture distorted satellite imagery of the tax offices within the city, and the state institutions that define Ireland’s tax status. Viewed from the rotation of Google satellites, Dublin’s streets and architecture are warped, and dwarfed by the orbital imagery of the night sky, and the corporations who now call Ireland home.

Reminiscent of the imagery often found in early 3D computer modelling, the city is funnelled from ground, to space, and back down again to form a fusion of disassociated, hollow shells. Processing a city through the prism of corporate technology manufactures real, yet imagined spaces that are stitched together into non-architecture.
